Relationscapes: Encounters

Opening: Friday, January 16th at 5:00 PM with performances by Greig Burgoyne and Lola Bezemer

Relationscapes* is a project by artist Lola Bezemer and artist/researcher Greig Burgoyne, comprising of two exhibitions featuring six international performance artists reflecting on the theme of borders.

Borders are contradictory; they protect and exclude, they reveal and conceal, they are physical and psychological, visible and invisible. Relationscapes: Encounters explores both the porosity and fluidity of these borders.

The first part, Relationscapes: Framing, focused on video works and took place at the Herbert Read Gallery in Canterbury in late 2025. The second exhibition, Relationscapes: Encounters, will be held at De Vishal, featuring installations and live performances. The collection of works references, among other things, chronic online presence, war trauma, liminal beings, emotional and relational states of being, non-hierarchical systems, and power structures.

Participating artists: Finn Adrian Jorkjen, Toni Brell, Karolina Rupp, Maja Zećo, Greig Burgoyne, and Lola Bezemer.

*The exhibition's title is borrowed from Erin Manning's book "Relationscapes: Movement, Art, Philosophy."

Relationscapes: Encounters runs from the 17th of January until the 8th of February 2026 at De Vishal in Haarlem.

Relationscapes: Framing

Relationscapes* is a co-curated project between artist Lola Bezemer and artist/ researcher Greig Burgoyne and encompasses two exhibitions featuring performance artists from across Europe who engage in varying conceptualisations around boundaries. This first iteration, Relationscapes: Framing, focuses on film, print and moving image-based works. In January 2026, opening in The Netherlands, Relationscapes: Encounters will see the artists present installations and live performances.

In these troubled and blatantly unjust times, we question the enforcement of national boundaries and on the other hand personal boundaries that may be broken or denied. Relationscapes investigates both the porosity and fluidity beyond those boundaries, the preferable open and boundless over the closed. At times absurd, a plethora of works take references from the chaotic if dense magma that contemporary culture has become, the trauma and liberation of conflict, the paradox of isolation and the gift that otherness can bring. Through the sonic, film, and image, this first exhibition offers a range of works that wrestle with such actualities. The show will conclude with an online talk around the work and the shows contexts on 10th December.

Participating artists: Greig Burgoyne, Maja Zećo (image), Karolina Rupp, Toni Brell, Finn Adrian Jorkjen, Lola Bezemer.

*The title of the exhibition is borrowed from the book "Relationscapes: Movement, Art, Philosophy" by Erin Manning.

Vice Versa

July 2025: On the 18th of July opens the exhibition Vice Versa III at de Grote of St.-Bavokerk in Haarlem. For the exhibition I made a new sculpture out of textile, ceramics and rebar. The work is inspired by a relief of draperies and ornaments in the church.

Artists: Florence Marceau-Lafleur, Frank Havermans, Lola Bezemer and Madelief van de Beek.

BOGOTÁ ART

April 2025: The past few months I have been working on the curation of BOGOTÁ ART, an exhibition with 40 artists from the BOGOTÁ studios in Halfweg. The theme of the exhibition is Mycelium: the underground network of fungal threads from which mushrooms grow. This intertwined and resilient system serves as a metaphor for the relationship between artists and their environment. How can they, like mushrooms, grow out of this network and respond to their changing environment?

I would like to invite you to the opening on Thursday April 3rd at the BOGOTÁ studios in Halfweg. As part of the opening, I will invite the public to spread ‘spores’.

Opening performance Reveal the Stage

March 2024: On the 23rd of March my solo exhibition at Zinder opened with a new performance of Reveal the Stage. The performers danced with a long piece of textile through the Zinder building, going down the stairs, through the library and ending at the exhibition space, where they installed the large textile piece into ceramic sculptures. This new installation is now on show until the 20th of April alongside models I made in preparation and a 30 minute video of the opening performance by Can Oktik.

Performers Reveal the Stage at Zinder:
Isabelle Bisseling, Jade Kerste, Ylvie Meeter, Liesbet Mulder

Zinder is open Monday to Saturday. Monday 13:00 - 22:30, Tuesday to Friday 10-22:30, Saturday 10:00-16:00. Address: Rechtbankstraat 1, Tiel.

Reveal the Stage at Zinder

March 2024: In the coming weeks I will be collaborating with performers on a new version of the piece Reveal the Stage that will be shown at the opening of my exhibition at Zinder in Tiel, the Netherlands.

Reveal the Stage is a performance where dancers bring to life a 25 meter long piece of textile. The dancers explore the relationships of the textile to themselves, the building, the audience and ceramic sculptures created for the piece.

The performance is scheduled on Saturday the 23rd of March at 14:00 and is followed by the opening speech by curator Jade Kerste.

The exhibition will be on show until the 20th of April 2024.

Work in Progress at Galerie Cpunt

February 2024: This week I've built up the exhibition Work in Progress / Werk in Uitvoering at Galerie Cpunt in Hoofddorp (previously Galerie De Meerse). In the exhibition I am showing props from previous performances and a collection of videoworks that document performances I've created over the past 8 years. Next to this the exhibition also gives an insight in the works I am creating during my residency at Cpunt. Work in Progress will be on view until the 22nd of March 2024. The exhibition is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 14:00 - 17:00 and by appointment. On Friday the 8th of March from 16-18h we will celebrate the exhibition together.

Residency at Cpunt

September 2023: This month I have started my one year artist in residency at Cpunt, a cultural center in Haarlemmermeer, The Netherlands. During the residency I will experiment with ceramics and continue making performances.

Dancing Through (Un)common Worlds

March 2023: Currently I am creating a new work for the exhibition Dancing Through (Un)common Worlds which I am curating for De Vishal in Haarlem. The show will open with a performance on March 10th 2023 at 17:00 and will run until the 16th of April.

As a long canvas weaves itself through De Vishal; flowing along the pillars, creating intimate spaces for you to move through, Dancing Through (Un)common Worlds puts you face to face with a waterfall of hair, a whistling butterfly, ceramic 'body arcs' and tufted Joshua trees.
